On behalf of the SMSV EXCO, it is my pleasure to welcome you to SMSV and Victoria. First off, SMSV would like to thank you for the tremendous amount of support you have lent to SMSV over the years. This organization is only where it is today because of your dedication and support.
Since its inauguration in 2008, SMSV has aimed to serve as a platform for Victorian based medical students, both from Singapore and other countries to interact and to create an environment where our members feel comfortable and at home. As an organization, we hope to fortify the sense of belonging and forge lasting friendships amongst the medical community. This year, we are extending our reach to our recently graduated doctors and past members of SMSV, with the initiation of the new SMSV Alumni Wing, aimed at continuing to support our members as they ease into the working world.
I feel very proud to be part of this organisation, that has reached new heights in the span of just a few years. SMSV has many events and activities lined up for our members this year, through which we aim to provide resources to support our members both academically and socially. We will continue to serve as the point of contact for the Ministry of Health( MOH ), Singhealth, National Healthcare Group ( NHG) and the National University Health System( NUHS), the major healthcare organisations in Singapore. We also remain committed to assisting our members in their personal and professional growth, through our medical missions initiatives and the 1st Singapore Medical Society of Victoria Leadership Seminar in August 2015.
As a fellow medical student in Victoria, I encourage you to make the most of your time here as medical students in Victoria, both academically and outside of medical school. This time away from home will undoubtedly mold you into more confident, determined individuals and future doctors. You will face challenges, which will prepare you for your future career in medicine. Remember medicine is not a race, rather it is a journey. It is up to you what you make of this journey. I strongly believe that each and every one of our members has something unique to contribute to SMSV, so please feel free to speak up and approach anyone from the SMSV committees even if it’s for a cuppa!
I hope that we can all work together, to make our stay in Victoria and memorable and fulfilling as possible. I extend my best wishes to all of you and sincerely welcome you to SMSV again.
